To Congressional Leadership:

Donald Trump's appointment of Steve Bannon to the position of chief strategist is unnacceptable. Bannon is a racist, anti-Semite and misogynist who, as the former head of Breitbart News Network, has amassed a following of white nationalists and neo-Nazis.

Allowing Bannon to advise on operations at the highest levels of government would be a catastrophe that would put the most vulnerable members of our society even further in harm's way.

Please find the courage to oppose Bannon.

Steve Bannon Has NO Place in the White House

Donald Trump has named Steve Bannon his chief strategist. The former head of Breitbart News Network, Bannon is responsible for the “mainstreaming of white nationalism.”1

Under Bannon’s leadership, Breitbart doubled down on its publication of racist stories. Breitbart gained traction by supporting Trump throughout his campaign — promoting views that endanger people of color, Jewish people, queer people and women.

Bannon is a racist, anti-Semite and misogynist. Trump needs to drop him immediately.

Allowing Bannon to advise on operations at the highest levels of government would be a catastrophe that would put the most vulnerable members of our society even further in harm’s way. In the week after the presidential election, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, there were 437 recorded incidents of hateful harassment and intimidation2 targeting immigrants, people of color, religious minorities and LGBTQI people. Trump’s victory has emboldened white nationalists and neo-Nazi groups.

These same hateful groups have applauded3 Bannon’s rise to power. This is no surprise: Under Bannon’s leadership, Breitbart became a space for the rebranding of the white nationalist movement as the “alt-right.” With Bannon in the West Wing, Breitbart News — an outlet rife with racism and misogyny — could, in the words of a former staffer, become the closest thing we’ve ever had to “a state-owned media entity.”4
