Tell Your Mayor: Support REAL Net Neutrality
The U.S. Conference of Mayors meets this week in Dallas and on the agenda is a resolution in support of real Net Neutrality.
This is a big deal. If this resolution passes, it will send a strong signal to Washington leaders and the FCC that we will not stand for a plan that would allow rampant discrimination online. But the phone and cable companies are lobbying our mayors to stay silent.
Opposition is building nationwide to the FCC's proposed rules, which would allow telecom giants like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon to create a two-tiered Internet, with fast lanes for those who can afford it and dirt roads for the rest of us. These companies would be able to pick winners and losers online and discriminate against online content and applications. And no one would be able to do anything about it.
Pick up the phone and urge your mayor — or any mayor in your state that's on this important committee — to stand up for the open Internet and support this resolution.
