To the Senate:

Proposed legislation that would ban TikTok will not address the legitimate concerns lawmakers and people across the country have voiced about user privacy and security. TikTok is not the only company collecting users’ sensitive data and processing or sharing that data in harmful ways. And a national ban on a social-media application could violate the free-expression rights guaranteed under the Constitution.

We call on Congress to pass federal privacy legislation to protect all internet users. Lawmakers should reject bills that would ban individual websites and apps when so many others engage in the same kinds of problematic actions.

    NO to a TikTok Ban! YES to Real Privacy Protections!

    Tell the Senate: Reject the Ban on TikTok and Champion Real Federal Privacy Protections

    By now, you’ve probably heard a lot of hype and panic about the social-media platform TikTok amid the rush from Congress to ban the app.

    The House of Representatives has already passed a bill that would ban TikTok.1 President Biden has indicated that he will sign the legislation if it reaches his desk, so we need to do whatever we can to stop it in its tracks in the Senate.

    Right now, all kinds of companies are collecting, storing, analyzing and selling our private information for profit. Banning TikTok is not a solution to this much broader problem.

    If Congress is serious about protecting our personal information, it needs to pass comprehensive privacy legislation, which would apply to all social-media platforms and actually protect our data across the internet.

    Take action: Urge the Senate to reject the TikTok ban and pass much-needed privacy legislation.
