Enough Is Enough: Tell Facebook to Prevent Further Violence

Despite what some law-enforcement agencies and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg have said, we know that the racist insurrection at the U.S. Capitol was planned out in the open on platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

While Facebook has now *finally* banned and removed anything with the phrase “Stop the Steal” in it — which Free Press and our allies had urged it to do for months — the company has not banned hate groups or pages that encourage people to bring weapons to events.

The FBI has warned that armed protests are being planned for all 50 state capitols from Jan. 16 through at least Jan. 20 and at the U.S. Capitol from Jan. 17–20. Facebook must take immediate action and stop violent organizing on its platform.
