To AT&T, Cox, Comcast, Frontier, T-Mobile, Verizon and other broadband and telephone providers:

To minimize disruptions to education, the economy and public life — and to ensure timely public-health communications are accessible to all — we are calling on your companies to take the following actions during the COVID-19 outbreak in the United States:

  • Suspend all data caps and fees.
  • Pause all disconnects for non-payment of broadband fees during the pandemic.
  • Eliminate all eligibility requirements for any low-income targeted plans during the pandemic.
  • Waive all billing for low-income households, seniors, furloughed workers and households with public-school students who have been sent home due to school closures.

Tell Comcast, AT&T and more: Waive Internet and Phone Bills for At-Risk People and Stop Data Caps During the Coronavirus Crisis

As the United States struggles to contain the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, reliable access to internet and phone services is more critical than ever. We must ensure that students are still able to learn, employers are still able to conduct business, and we’re all able to communicate with each other.

We are calling on the cable and phone companies to immediately take the following steps during this public-health emergency:

    • Suspend all data caps and fees.
    • Pause all disconnects for non-payment of broadband fees during the pandemic.
    • Eliminate all eligibility requirements for any low-income targeted plans during the pandemic.
    • Waive all billing for low-income households, seniors, furloughed workers and households with public-school students who have been sent home due to school closures.

During a crisis, internet and phone access should be accessible public services like water and electricity. Urge the nation’s big broadband providers like Comcast, AT&T and Verizon, to take the crucial steps outlined here.
