Stop These Fake Net Neutrality Bills in their Tracks
Republicans in Congress just dropped three totally B.S. fake Net Neutrality bills — and we need to expose them for what they really are and stop them in their tracks.
We’ve seen these fake compromises masquerading as real Net Neutrality before, and these bills are all lies, all around. They all create massive loopholes in the law that would allow for a bunch of harmful discriminatory practices, and prevent the Federal Communications Commission from adopting and enforcing rules that would actually protect people going forward.
Disguised as Net Neutrality legislation, these bills protect phone and cable companies from any real oversight while paying lip service to an issue members of Congress know their constituents feel passionately about.
The Comcasts and Verizons of the world don’t need protecting. These companies are after one thing only: profit at any cost. But the internet is a critical tool for all of us trying to thrive in today’s world. Net Neutrality is what keeps the internet free and open for social movements to grow, marginalized communities to tell their own stories and small businesses to succeed.
These proposed bills need to be exposed for what they are: a cynical and outdated political ploy, and an industry effort to prevent the FCC from enforcing the law to keep the internet open and free from discrimination.
Let’s stop these bad Net Neutrality bills in their tracks.
