Advertisers: It's Time to Drop Fox
Our friends at Media Matters recently released recordings of Fox News host Tucker Carlson saying vile things about young girls, defending statutory rape and describing people of color in heinous terms.1 And this was only the latest in his years-long pattern of media hate-mongering.
But this time, we’ve had enough. Thousands took to the streets. Free Press Action joined with allies from MoveOn, MPower Change, Women’s March and other groups outside an emergency meeting of Fox News’ advertisers in NYC.
And now it’s on. Advertisers are fleeing the network, and we’re pushing for even more — because it’s more urgent than ever.
In the same week as Carlson’s scandal, Fox host Jeanine Pirro referred to U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar’s hijab as “indicative of adherence to Sharia law.”2 Days later, the world was devastated by the massacre of 50 Muslim worshippers in two New Zealand mosques.
The spread of hate online and in the media must be disrupted — and it’s up to us to push for change.
