To Senate President Nicholas Scutari, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, Senate Majority Leader M. Teresa Ruiz, Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald, Senate Budget Chair Paul Sarlo and Assembly Budget Chair Eliana Pintor Marin:

In New Jersey we’ve seen again and again how the loss of vital local news has left communities in the dark, decreased civic participation and created an information vacuum that disinformation has filled.

But there’s a way to fix this. New Jersey has already taken bold action with the creation of the Civic Information Consortium. Now we’re calling on you to continue supporting the community-led local journalism that we all need and deserve. Please restore the $2.5 million in funding for the New Jersey Civic Information Consortium in this year’s budget. Now, more than ever, we need the state to keep communities informed and engaged.

Now Is the Time to Invest in Local News in N.J.

We’ve seen again and again how the loss of vital local journalism leads to an increase in corruption, lower turnout in local elections and the creation of an information vacuum that disinformation has filled.

Join us now: Urge New Jersey leaders to fully fund the state’s Civic Information Consortium to ensure that all communities get the local journalism they need and deserve.
