I urge you to oppose Stephen Miller and Donald Trump’s mass surveillance agenda by voting against reauthorizing FISA Section 702 without meaningful reforms. Congress must insist on reforms, including a warrant requirement before agencies can search the calls, texts and emails of people in the United States and a ban on federal agencies turning to data brokers to buy access to our personal data when the government would otherwise need a court order.     Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act expires on Apr. 20. The law has been used to conduct millions of warrantless searches of Americans’ phone calls, text messages and emails. Stephen Miller and other key figures in the Trump White House want a clean extension with no reforms, no new safeguards and no warrant requirement.

    An overwhelming majority of people across the political spectrum support reforms to these domestic surveillance powers. Only 12 percent think Congress should extend these powers as-is.
