Time is running out to pass the Civic Info Bill (S2317/A3628). We need lawmakers to hear directly from New Jersey residents about the need to ensure our communities are informed and engaged.
This critical legislation would invest millions of dollars in innovative projects designed to strengthen local journalism, foster community and amplify the voices of people of color and other marginalized communities.
This bill couldn’t come at a more urgent time. Communities throughout the Garden State have little to no local news coverage. This means that people don’t know what’s going on in their local schools and town halls — let alone what’s happening at the statehouse.
We’ve built incredible momentum thanks to thousands of supporters like you who have been calling and emailing lawmakers around the state. We have a real shot at winning — but we have only until June 30 to pass the bill. Are you in?
Meet us on June 11 at the New Jersey Statehouse for a Lobby Day to speak with legislators and urge them to support this bill. Here are the details:
What: New Jersey Civic Info Bill Lobby Day
When: Mon., June 11, from 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
Where: 125 West State St., Trenton. We’ll meet at the statehouse cafeteria at 9 a.m.
We’ll huddle up in the morning, then spend the day letting lawmakers know about the real-life impact of news and information — why local news matters, how media consolidation has harmed our communities, and why we need the legislature to pass the Civic Info Bill and invest in our state’s future.
Standing alongside fellow activists from across the state, you’ll get to engage in direct conversation with the lawmakers who represent your interests. It’s democracy in action!
Come to the statehouse on June 11 and speak out for the Civic Info Bill. If we stand together, we can win this fight.
